NACCRRA Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Respite Care

What is the NACCRRA Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Respite Care?

NACCRRA's EFMP Respite Care, for Marine Corps families is a partnership between the U.S. Marine Corps and NACCRRA and is specifically designed for Marine Corps families who have children identified as Exceptional Family Members (EFM). The initial launch of the EFMP Respite Care program is in the greater San Diego, California area.

NACCRRA EFMP Respite Care will help Marine Corps families with children with special needs by providing 40 hours of respite care per month so they can leave the house, go to an appointment, or just rest, while knowing that their child is well cared for. The service will be at no cost to eligible families.

Where can Marine Corps families find the NACCRRA EFMP Respite Care program?

Qualified Marines stationed at the following Marine locations listed below will be eligible for 40 hours per month of respite child care.

  • Greater San Diego, CA
  • Northern Virginia
  • Quantico, VA
  • Beaufort, SC
  • Jacksonville, NC

Who is eligible for the NACCRRA EFMP Respite Care program?

Marine families will be eligible for EFMP Respite Care if the following criteria have been met:

  1. The family is enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and the EFM child is aged birth trhough 18 years.
  2. The sponsor is impacted by overseas contingency operatives.
  3. The Marine is stationed at one of the above locations.

What do I need to apply?

Once Child Care Aware confirms your eligibiligy, Child Care Aware will connect you to a local agency to work with you to complete the application and find a respite provider who meets your child's needs.

How long does it take?

The process is individualized for each family. The agency will meet with the family to complete the initial paperwork. The agency and family will work together to identify potential respite care providers. The family will interview each provider to determine which provider(s) will best meet their needs. Once a provider is selected and the agency notified, the family can begin using their respite care.
