Find High-Quality Child Care

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Child Care Assistance For Severely Injured Military Members Program?
This special program is designed to provide child care services and fee assistance to the families of severely injured Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen. The military family contacts a specially-trained NACCRRA staff member to communicate their specific child care needs. NACCRRA, working with local Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, will then help find safe, licensed child care in a location that will best serve the family. Additionally, NACCRRA will make fee assistance payments to the child care providers on behalf of the military families that will lower the fee the family pays the provider.

2. Who is eligible to participate in this program?
Any regular active duty military member injured and receiving medical treatment on either an in-patient or out-patient basis who is in need of child care services.

3. Where will the program be available?
The program is available wherever the military family's children are residing. This may be in a program near where the injured military member is receiving treatment if the children accompany the other parent, or where the children are living with relatives or friends who are caring for them during hospitalization or convalescence.

4. What is the specific length of time a military family may participate in the program?
Child care services and fee assistance is provided for a period of six months during the time of either in-patient or out-patient medical care status. The 6-month period begins on the date of initial hospital admittance and may be extended on a case-by-case basis contingent upon physician reassessment.

5. How does the family apply for this program?
The spouse or relative will fax, email or mail a copy of the Physician Certification form signed by the attending physician to NACCRRA at 703-341-4104, or msp@naccrra.org, or 3101 Wilson Blvd. Suite 350, Arlington, VA 22201. The family may apply for fee assistance by completing the brief subsidy application on-line at www.naccrra.org/militaryprograms or by faxing a completed copy to 703.341.4104.

6. How does the family receive fee assistance?
Families pay a reduced fee to the child care provider based on the lowest family income category fee they would pay if using a military installation child care program. The difference between this fee and the provider’s standard fee is offset by the DOD and paid directly to the provider by NACCRRA.

7. How is the provider paid?
NACCRRA pays the provider directly.

8. Will a family be reimbursed for child care expenses incurred prior to applying for this program and, if so, for how long?
A family may be reimbursed up to a 3-month period prior to physician-certified in-patient or out-patient care. The three months is included in the 6-month total period.

9. What is NACCRRA’s role in the Program for Severely Injured?
NACCRRA assists families in completing the required paperwork, coordinates with the family and the local Child Care Resourse and Referral Agencies to help locate safe, quality child care, and processes provider fee assistance payments.
