Overview and TimelineBackgroundA crucial step in continuing the groundbreaking work begun by CCR&R's past and current leadership is identifying and nurturing future leaders within the field. The average age of Executive Directors in State Network Offices is 53 and the average age of local CCR&R Directors is 46. When asked, NACCRRA members recently rated executive development and leadership development high priorities. NACCRRA is addressing that challenge with the NACCRRA Leadership Development Program. How it WorksThe Leadership Development Program will be phased in over a three-year period, which started with six participants the first year (2007), and will expand with at least four additional candidates each year. In the fourth year (2010), the first class of Leaders will graduate at the NACCRRA Policy Symposium, and the cycle will continue. Personnel with outstanding leadership potential and talent from among local CCR&R and State Network staff are invited to submit an application for admission into the Leadership Development Program. The successful applicants will be selected by a committee appointed by the NACCRRA Board of Directors. Orientation and TrainingDuring spring of year one, a one-week orientation for the Leadership Development Program will take place in Washington, D.C. Training will continue throughout the tenure of the Leadership Program during select sessions at NACCRRA's Policy Symposia, State Network Leadership Institutes (SNLI), and through specific activities integrated within the Leadership Development Program. NACCRRA will cover registration, travel and lodging for Leaders to Orientation, Symposia and SNLI during the Leader's tenure. The Leader's employer will grant release time with pay for these activities. The employer or the Leader will cover meals and incidental costs. The InternshipsIn year two, Leaders will undertake a one-month internship at a State Network or local CCR&R. The Leader will be assigned to an internship in a state other than their state of residence/employment. In year three, a second internship will be served at NACCRRA in Washington, D.C. NACCRRA will cover travel and lodging for internships. The Leader's employer will grant release time with pay for these activities. The employer or the Leader will cover meals and incidental costs. The Leadership ProjectEach Leader will undertake a project designed to impact the work of CCR&R. The project will be determined by the Leader and NACCRRA Mentors. |
