The Gwen Morgan Scholarship For CCR&R Professional Development

About Gwen Morgan and this Scholarship

The Gwen Morgan Scholarship for Professional Development was established to honor Gwen Morgan, one of CCR&R's founders and visionaries. Through leadership and education, Ms. Morgan was one of the first advocates for CCR&R as the systematic and comprehensive solution to improving the quality, affordability, and accessibility of child care.

What Today's Leaders Say About Gwen Morgan

Most of today's CCR&R leaders have been influenced by the work of Gwen Morgan in one way or another. When thinking about Gwen Morgan's impact, it's likely that today's CCR&R leaders would recall the following: u the impact that Gwen Morgan's leadership had on their involvement and passion for Child Care Resource & Referral as the means to helping families find quality child care for their children;

  • the courses they took from Gwen Morgan at Wheelock College and how she inspired them to grow our field to be the success that it is today;
  • hearing her talk about Child Care Resource & Referral and the development and use of best practices to establish CCR&R as a leading voice for child care;
  • that Gwen Morgan was always available as a mentor, coach, advisor, and teacher, and that they are successful CCR&R leaders today because of Gwen Morgan's support and guidance;
  • that Gwen Morgan wants us to continue to improve our work so that families and children benefit, and that developing new CCR&R leaders is the way to ensure the commitment and passion will live on.

Strengthening Tomorrow's CCR&R Leaders

The Gwen Morgan Scholarship for Professional Development was especially created to recognize the link between three generations of CCR&R leadership: our founders, our current leaders, and our future leaders. This scholarship will support, through funds, training, and recognition, the development of our future CCR&R leaders.

How it Works

The Gwen Morgan Scholarship for Professional Development will be awarded annually to one CCR&R professional who demonstrates characteristics of a potential new CCR&R Leader. Applicants may self-nominate or may be nominated by others. A committee including NACCRRA's Executive Director will review applications and select an award recipient. The recipient will attend NACCRRA's Professional Development Institute (2008 Institute is in Pittsburgh, PA) and the scholarship may go towards any of the expenses associated with the costs of the institute including hotel, registration, or travel. The total amount of the scholarship is $500.

About NACCRRA's Professional Development Institute

In September 2008, NACCRRA will offer its second annual Professional Development Institute, designed specifically for frontline CCR&R staff. The Institute features the information, resources, and tools to help CCR&R professionals do what they already do well.... better. Staff from around the nation will come together once again for this exciting opportunity to expand skills, grow professionally, and meet and network with CCR&R staff.
