NACCRRA Partners with the Department of Defense to
Expand Quality Community-based Child Care Options for
Arlington, VA – December 28, 2010 -The National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to launch a two-year pilot initiative to expand the availability of quality, affordable community-based child care for military families.
Through this DoD-funded pilot program, NACCRRA will place a Military Child Care Liaison in 13 DoD-selected states who will work with child care stakeholders within the state to promote and support quality child care policies, best practices and provider training. Partners will include state child care administrators, licensing bureaus, early childhood councils, Child Care Resource and Referral agencies, National Guard offices and military installations. The states selected to participate are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Vermont and Washington.
”We are pleased to work with the DoD to improve the quality and accessibility of off-installation child care options for military families,” said Linda K. Smith, NACCRRA's Executive Director. “The Military Child Care Liaison Initiative will not only be a valuable resource for military families, but it will also improve the quality of care in all settings by linking state child care programs to DoD quality standards. Through this project, we hope to improve child care options for all families.”
Often referred to as a “model for the nation,” 98 percent of all DoD child development programs are nationally accredited compared to only 8 percent of off-installation child care centers.
