Online Nutrition & Physical Activity Course available at no charge for 24 hours
Arlington, VA-- The Child Care Aware Training Academy™ and partner Smart Horizons will offer a free online training course to celebrate Provider Appreciation Day, which recognizes child care providers, teachers and other educators of young children each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day.
The course – which focuses on how providers can create a healthier child care setting – will be available at no charge until midnight on May 11. Those who complete the class will be able to print a certificate of completion.
The 2-hour, online Promoting Nutrition & Physical Activity in Child Care course is designed to help child care providers understand the causes of childhood obesity and how to most effectively address them in a child care setting through active play and nutritional meal planning. These courses include helpful, printable resource guides, family letters, activity ideas and planning forms.
The free offering reflects Child Care Aware of America®’s commitment to the Let’s Move! Child Care initiative, which provides tools and resources to promote healthy eating and exercise in family child care homes and centers. The program was launched in June 2011 and was an outgrowth of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, which is dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation.
Provider Appreciation Day, occurring this year on May 11, is a special day to honor child care providers, teachers and other educators of young children. Nearly 11 million children under age 5 spend a portion of their week in the care of someone other than their mother – on average, about 35 hours per week.
