Sunday, September 8, is Grandparents Day, a day to reflect on the incredible value grandparents bring to the lives of children and communities.
Grandparents contribute more than $2.43 billion toward higher education for children. Taxpayers save more than $6.5 billion thanks to grandparents who help to raise children who might otherwise be in foster care. Plus, about 30 percent of children under age 5 with working mothers are cared for by a grandparent. We know that’s a huge help to parents who are struggling to afford child care.
Lynette M. Fraga, Ph.D., executive director of Child Care Aware® of America, writes about the economic impact grandparents have in her blog.
