Child Care Aware® of America Announces Partnership with Sesame Workshop
Pilot project will support resilience education to families through member Child Care Resource and Referral Networks

ARLINGTON, Va., March 20, 2014— Child Care Aware® of America and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, will provide children and families in child care with free resources to improve the overall well-being of children. In addition, the effort will gather feedback from families and the child care community about the usefulness of these resources. This two-year partnership includes a pilot program designed to provide Sesame Workshop’s multimedia materials about resilience to children and families as a way to promote family engagement.

“Child Care Aware® of America’s membership reaches more than 860,000 families a year; joining forces with Sesame Workshop is a common sense way we can better serve and learn from the families with whom both of our organizations engage,” said Lynette M. Fraga, executive director of Child Care Aware® of America. “We are so pleased to collaborate in a way that will empower families with Sesame Workshop’s distribution of free resources from trusted characters children know and love. At the same time, we will be able to provide families’ feedback on the resources to help Sesame Workshop grow its offerings with information tailored for child care.” 

The purpose of the pilot program is to pair Sesame Workshop’s resilience materialswith the established network of the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&Rs) field. This program will allow CCR&Rs who are members of Child Care Aware® of Americato submit requests for proposal to participate in the pilot and distribute materials to children and families in their community. Updates around the rollout of materials and how to submit requests for proposal will be announced on the Early Directionsblog.

Sesame Workshop has a history of providing rich content to support children and families in challenging times and in December 2013 launched a new set of materials on resilience. Child Care Aware® of America has served in an advisory capacity on many of these materials and has developed a working relationship over the past several years.

Sesame Workshop will also provide gift bags to all attendees at the Child Care Aware® of America 2014 Symposium and send a Sesame Street Walkaround character to launch the 3-day event.

These resources not only help children to learn and grow from these situations; they also provide the adults in their lives with habitual activities to help young children build these crucial skills in a way that only Sesame Workshop can – with the help of the Muppets.”
