The High Price of Child Care

Parents, you know best about what the high price of child care means in your household budget. Did you know that many groups were working together to make quality child care affordable and accessible? Did you know that you could help by sharing your story?

The National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) just released a new report called “Breaking the Piggy Bank: Parents and the High Price of Child Care.”

Breaking the Piggy Bank presents data on child care prices and also analyzes findings from a series of 14 focus groups conducted with parents in seven sites across the country.

bottom line is that the cost of child care in America is extraordinarily high. You know this.

Quality, affordable child care should not be a dream. You can help more decision-makers to understand this issue. We seek the support of private funding sources and state and federal government sources to make quality child care affordable for all families.

We must communicate this message to the press, elected officials, partners, and the general public.

What can you do?

  1. Share your story with your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency. Every voice counts and the stories of parents help us to advocate on your behalf.
  2. Go to http://naccrra.parentsaction.org/campaign/price_report_letter and send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Letters to the editor are a great way to help the general public learn more about an issue.
  3. Tell your friends!
