Parent Leaders: Katie Olson is the mother of two children living on the White Earth Indian Reservation. Her children are 4 and 6 years old. As a provider at an infant and toddler child care center, Katie has witnessed her center turning away families because there is no room for additional children. She has been on both sides of the child care experience, as a parent and a provider, and knows that parents on the reservation are struggling to find quality and affordable child care. Katie participated in the Parents @ Symposium 2012 program. Amanda Tallen is a parent leader from Minnesota and is advocates for early intervention services and affordable quality child care. When her son Jimmy was 3, he was enrolled in Head Start where he was found to need fine motor therapy in addition to speech therapy he was already receiving. Since that time, Amanda was awarded an Early Learning Scholarship which has allowed Jimmy to be enrolled in a high-quality child care center. This scholarship offers 10,000 children in Minnesota access to quality care and preschool.
