The BLS defines child care workers as those who “attend to children at schools, businesses, private households, and child care institutions” and “perform a variety of tasks, such as dressing, feeding, bathing, and overseeing play.” It is important to note that some family child care providers are excluded in the numbers because they are self-employed and report their income differently. The definition also excludes preschool teachers and teacher assistants.
