The included data profile the need for and use of child care in the United States today, and its current cost, quality, and impact on America’s children, families, and economy. It also provides key data on the nation’s Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) system, which helps families, child care providers, and communities find, provide, and plan for affordable, quality child care.
Data Collection for Building Early Learning Systems
This paper summarizes the sources of data available for the consumers of information on early care and education including parents, community planners, economic developers, employers, policy decision-makers, programming decision-makers, and researchers. By providing a framework for discerning the sources of data by type, advantages and disadvantages, this paper is a useful resource for individuals building early learning systems at the local, state and national levels.
In December of 2000, NACCRRA released a nationally standardized data collection tool that is the first of its kind. The release of these standardized fields is a major step toward the development of a national standardized data set of information that is collected locally by resource & referral agencies on a regular basis. The data will be used to identify national trends that inform parents, planners, providers, and policy decision-makers about early learning and school-age programs.
